Driver Update Problem with Latitude E6420

I am trying to make sure all my drivers for my Dell E6420 are up to date. I have gone to the support area of Dell.com and identified my machine. I let the site detect my drivers and then tell me what I need. I am at the point where I have downloaded all the drivers and installed them, but one keeps appearing:

Chipset |Intel Management Engine 7.1 Components Installer

This one keeps showing up even though I have installed it multiple times. I have tried downloading it manually and installing it from my desktop, downloading it and running it through the Dell site, downloading it with the Download Manager, but nothing works. I have also restarted my laptop several times.

Any suggestions on how to get this installed properly? Is this something I am doing wrong on the install or that the Dell site is not seeing and its an error there? Any idea how to correct it?

Thanks!

Greetings Tklopp,

Thank you for your post and feedback.

It's a problem with the Dell website. Dell is working to resolve it.

Thanks!

Any idea when I should check back to see if it is fixed?

I have two other e6420's to update.

Good day Tklopp,

Thanks for getting back.

Your AMT ( Intel management engine ) drivers are likely up to date. It's just the website tool is saying they're not, for-some-reason. I will get back with you and show you how to check your AMT driver versions using device manager.

There's no ETA for the website fix at this time.

Does your network infrastructure include Intel AMT support? If not, updating the Intel Management Engine driver isn't necessary in your case.

Tklopp,

As discussed, I would return to explain how to check your driver versions manually regarding AMT.

Below are some things you'll want to keep in mind about AMT. First, there are a few components to AMT, explained below with device manager pics included:

1. The AMT SOL device. This resides under 'Ports (COM & LTP )' in device manager.

Latest version according to the Dell website is 7.1.70.1199

2. Intel Management Engine device. This one resides under 'System devices' in device manager:

Latest version according to the Dell website is 7.1.70.1198

3. The Intel Management Engine Windows application ( This one is beyond my scope at the moment )

The Dell installer installs both drivers within the same installation process. The link to this driver package is here. They use-to-be installed separately on older models of Dell systems.

For items 1 and 2 above simply go into device manager and compare. I assume that your driver versions are the same as the 2 above at this time.

I will continue to drive the correction to the website issue and will post back when I can.
