E1505 Dase System Device and other issues
I have done a format and reload of Windows XP Pro on my e1505 laptop. I have dowloaded and installed the drivers in the order recommended. Notebook System Software, Chipset (Inculding the Ricoh driver), Video, Audio, then Network. Next perfomed a windows update. I still have 7 Device Manager issues. 2 Base Systm Devices, an Ethernet Controller, 2 IEEE 1394 Controllers (one under Other Devices, and one that is OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller, and a PCI Device.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you downloaded and installed the drivers? You downloaded them using another computer onto a USB stick? Then installed them, did the setup run after the Rxxxxx file? See my wiki A Clean Install of Windows XP (link below), you followed that procedure?

Good wiki natakuc :) And if you followed all those steps, jjm90sc, go to device manager and open up the properties for the devices. Find the hardware ID listed under detail and you can go to www.pcidatabase.com to figure out what devices they are saying the drivers are needed for.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. Natakuc...To answer your questioins; I downloaded the drivers from Dell and put the on a CD. Installed from the CD. IRT your wiki, which is very good, I did follow the order for driver install that you have listed. The one thing that is different from your wiki is the Windows XP that I purchased is the Pro versioin w/SP-3. Computer came with XP home w/SP-2. Could that be the issue?
Malkboy... The website suggested is a great resource for more data about a driver, but am still having issues with finding the driver for the effected system, and then what order to install.
Thanks again.

It shouldn't be. XP Home, XP Professional and XP Media Centre edition are all very similar. The XP drivers cover all the 32 bit versions of XP. The 32 bit Vista drivers cover all versions of Vista and also 7 (except for Bluetooth).
Although there was a problem once when a user used a French non-Dell XP Service Pack 3 CD. It was resolved by a registry edit can't remember what exactly but will look for it.

it's great to find the device manufacturer and in some instances exact device. If you used it, what did it say the devices were? That way, I can help you find the drivers. I can take some wild swings (like say, you need the Dell System Software and the main intel chipset drivers because it sounds like those didn't install right) but that information would help narrow it down more exactly.

The audio registry edit I mentioned was in this post here. Try following the instructions as in Jimcos answer.

Terry and Natakuc, Thanks again for your help on this. I went through and downloaded all of the drivers again from the Dell website that supported the installation order from Natakuc's wiki. Reloaded the OE, Installed the drivers, and still have the same six devise issues.
Here is some more info on 5 of the devices (left one of the notes at home) 1. OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller, VID 1180 (Ricoh), Device ID 0832 IEEE 1394 (4 pin Fire wire) Chip, Chip # 30CF103C; 2. Ethernet Controller, VID 14E4 (Broadcom), Device ID 170C Other Device - Ethernet Controller;
These next three are confusing to me because the all have a Vendor ID of 1580 which from the PCI Database shows up as Primex Aerospace Co. Putting in the Device ID into the PCI Db shows them all to be from Ricoh (VID 1180) 3. Base System Device, Device ID 0592 Ricoh Memory Stick Controller, Chip # R5C592; 4. Base System Device, Device ID 0843 Ricoh SD/Host Controller, Chip # R5C853; 5. PCI Device, Device ID 0822 SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller, Chip # R5C832.
Again I appreciate all the help so far.

To add to this saga...I went to drivers.com and ran there scanning software. On the two Base System Devices and the PCI Device it comes back that they need to be plugged in. Any ideas what this means? This machine has never been taken apart. Do I need to open it up and make sure that everything is connected correctly?
Again thanks in advance for any and all advise!

From what you have said, with respect to the error messages it sounds like you have installed none of the drivers for this system.
As I have one of these units I will tell you what to download exactly from the Dell FTP website. Please download the following using another computer and save it to a USB stick (USB stick is better to use than a CD or DVD):
1. Dell Notebook Software - R120775.exe
2. Intel Chipset - R114079.exe
3. Ricoh Chipset - R141246.exe
4. Intel Video - R153830.exe or ATI Video R128573.exe or nVidea R126007.exe
5. Conexant Modem Driver - R114200.exe & Application - R90851.exe
6. Broadcom Ethernet Driver - R149798.exe & Diagnostics R150593.exe
7. Dell Wireless Card - R174291.exe or Intel Proset Wireless - R171131.exe
8. Synaptics Touchpad - R120179.exe
9. Sigmatel Audio - R171789.exe
10. Dell Quickset - R180759.exe
11. Dell Bluetooth 350 - R117967.exe, R129472.exe or 355 - R127314.exe, R159805.exe
Insert the USB stick into your Inspiron E1505 and install the files in the order listed above. As for making sure the setup runs see my note below.
Once thats done and you are connected to the Internet again you may want:
Dell Support Centre
Microsoft Security Essentials
Other Software
Running the .exe file Rxxxxxx should extract the driver to C:\Dell\Drivers\Rxxxxxx and then run the installer automatically. If no installer runs, you will need to navigate to this folder and click on any setup.exe files.
We will take for example R284334 the chipset driver for my XPS 8300:
Double clicking the file, you should get a run prompt select yes.
Select Continue
Select Ok
Select Ok. At this stage the setup should start and you should start the installation. If it does not the driver is not installed. In my XPS 8300 (and I suspect many other systems) the installers do not automatically run. Therefore in this case I have to go to C:\Dell\Drivers\R284334 (you will have to go to the number of your driver) and click setup.
Accept the UAC prompt and install via the setup program.
Usually a series of clicking next, next, finish and then rebooting.
