E7440 Keyboard Issues - anyone else affected

Hi,

We have just received 5 new E7440 laptops and haver noticed an issue with the keyboards in that they don't seem to be sitting flat around the middle (around FGHJ keys) of the keyboard.

I've had a couple of keyboards replaced and still no better so would like to know if anyone else had noticed this at all? It may not be initially noticed except for one of the keys was broken which drew my attention to the bump/warpped keyboards. If you have one and could check it would be much appreciated.

Regards

Gavin

Hi Timo,

Sorry that I haven't posted an update.

In the end I went through 10 7440 laptops before changing to a different model.

My last batch was sent back to someone to inspect the laptops and the feedback that I received was that the wrong keyboards had been fitted to the laptops.

There were no other reports of this issue but I'd assume that there are more but the owners hadn't noticed.

Regards

Gavin

Hi avin,

I am sorry of the inconvenience. I would like to know if this is causing inconvenience in closing the lid. When the LCD lid is closed, do you feel that the keys are touching the LCD screen? Do you see the imprint of the keys on the LCD screen?

Hi,

I have the same issue. On the top roe with the F-keys one can see very good how the keyboard does not fit - the keys Esc and Del aling nicely with the top border, but the keys F5 to F9 rise a bit "over the rim".

First I though this "mountain" was an ergonimic  feature - but sadly the keys in this area are very waekly supported so that the mountain wobbles away when I type...

This is really annoying, especially as several test our on the internet (e.g. on notebookcheck) have praised the keyboard...

I wonder whether this is a problem of only some E7440, and others have a solid keyboard?

Timo

I thought I'd chime in here. I have the same issue. Rumor has it is the backlight keyboard is worse. It's just a flimsy, cheap keyboard on this model with little structural support in the mushy areas. Such a good machine this is its' Achilles heel, the keys even squeak while typing it is so bad. If this had the xps keyboard and touchpad it'd be the perfect machine for its size.
