E7440 - Make backlit keyboard always on
Hi, I'm trying to make the keyboard backlit all the time, so it never fades out.
I've read about Dell QuickSet and Windows Mobility Center but cannot find a download for QuickSet, and the WMC only shows 7 options; its not showing the custom stuff.
Any ideas? Thnx

Ok I've found the Feature Enhancement Pack. This adds the necessary settings.
But on first attempts choosing 'never' switch off seems to be broken and it actually turning the backlight off permanently. I've set it to '5 mins' which keeps the backlight on, but 'never' turns it off completely...

Bump .. nobody got a fix? Can anyone confirm the 'never' setting is broken?

I've observed the same thing - they seem to interpret "Never" as "Never Turn On" instead of "Never Turn Off." Not so smart there.

I've spoken with a Dell support rep and demonstrated the issue, he is working on a solution. Theres no way I can live without an 'always on' setting as I've bought this laptop for live music applications in dark environments. I expect it's one line of code in the FEP which needs tweaked; then release the update, sorted .. soon I hope.

And still no assistance, no reply to the email I sent to my rep .. I'll phone Dell tomorrow if I have to, and you'll be getting this laptop returned if you do not fix this issue, it is not acceptable.

since more than six years I've spoked so many times to the Dell support (once I've got a guy from Ireland, who promised me to take care about the problem), nothing happens.
I really don't know, if that's stupidness of the programmers or simply ignorance from Dell. The whole forum's crowded with this request.
I think it's the best was to have a switch in the BIOS to "always keep on", that you can use the backlit on linux too.
But for truth: Dell won't listen to customers :-(
