Hi Rstolle,

Welcome to the Community. I suggest you uninstall your touchpad driver and reinstall it back. To uninstall, click on start, right click on computer, click on properties, click on device manager, click on the symbol next to pointing devices, right click on Dell touchpad and click on uninstall, click  ok to confirm, once its removed use the below link to install it, and restart your computer a couple of times. Let us know if it helped.

Thank you

I've already done that. I was thinking the driver that shipped with the laptop had the issue and maybe a newer (and it was a newer) driver wouldn't have the issue. Unfortunately this wasn't the case and it had the same issue.

The mouse cursor is still disabled/locked when ever I start typing. About a second after I stop typing I can move the mouse cursor again.

Thanks

This is an issue for me as well, and has been since the computer was purchased. It's a stupid feature! I need my pointstick to be enabled while I type! Come on Dell!

Wow guys, Dell has kinda dropped the ball on this.  It's a pure software problem.  I reported it to them within a month of the E6530 release when I got mine.  They seem to have no interest in fixing it but there is a work around.

I figured I was either the last pointer stick user on Dell hardware or the only one that mouses and types simultaneously.  Please spread the word with the work around.  If Dell won't work with Alps and get a working driver.

Btw this procedure must be repeated every time windows is booted.

Work around for Dell pointer stick typing and pointing simultaneously:

1) start task manager
2) kill Apoint.exe (please note your pointer may stop moving at this point)
3) press and release windows key to bring up system menu.
4) get to the search box and type apoint.exe
5) use arrow keys to select from list if necesary
6) happy mousing and typing.

If anyone uses VM Ware this defect that Dell refuses to switch is also why there are occasional issues entering VM windows with mouse and keyboard grabbing.

Please share this and if anyone knows a dell exec hit them for me for sucking at customer service.

Just recently bought my first brand new Dell Latitude E6540 after a long ThinkPad time... only to discover this annoying bug / feature :(

Are there any news here on this topic or does it still need to be the "work around"???

There is a solution how to fix buggy driver and remove freezing.

It was tested on Dell Latitude E7440 with windows 7 x64:

1) Install latest ALPS touchpad driver (e.g. "Input_Driver_323GH_WN_8.1206.101.109_A06").

2) Open "Dell touchpad" utility.

3) Configure touchpad and trackpoint settings.

4) Open Services.msc, disable "Alps HID Monitor" service.

5) Remove file "C:\Program Files\DellTPad\ApMsgFwd.exe"

6) Reboot your system.

Touchpad/trackpoint settings will remain, freezes will disappear.
