Enter Key Not Working

I've had my Inspiron 6000 for a couple of years now and have had no problems - until now. My enter key is suddenly not working. The rest of them are - all the keys around it are functioning properly, and there doesn't seem to be any resistance when I push it. It was working fine this morning. Any idea on what caused this or how to fix it?

You can test the keyboard with the Dell diagnostics (f12 at boot). If the key fails the test, you'll have to replace the keyboard.

You cannot use the Dell Diagnostics because when you  hit F12 at boot you have to make your selection by hitting the ENTER key.

If your ENTER  key is broken, this is not going to work.
