Error Code 0142: Drive Self Test Failed Status byte=79 HELP!
I've had the Inspiron E1505 laptop for two years (so no longer covered by warranty) and it has worked fine until recently. It won't load onto my user profile, so I have no access to my pictures, music, or files. It just loads onto a temporary account and then everytime I restart my computer everything I saved is gone and I have to go through the setup process like I just got the computer. The Error Code 2000-0142 Msg: Unit 0: Drive Self Test failed Status byte=79 is all the info I have on the problem. What does this mean?? Are all my files lost for good?

Your disc is defective. I dont know the specific error but in my company the HDD will be replaced.
You should hurry to connect the HDD to another PC to secure Your files, while it is still responding.
You might succeed in running a disc repair and then being able to log in normally, but I would not rely on the HDD for long.
