Error message at startup: atiptaxx.exe has generated errors

Upon startup, I receive the error message "atiptaxx.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program." I know that this has to do with my ATI graphics control center. Why am I suddenly getting this message after almost two years? I am also suddenly having problems with resizing of the fonts, with a small sign-in screen and tiny icons.

 

I have recently updated to a DSL connection, but there have been no problems until now. I looked on the ATI website. What is the Catalyst Control Center package?

 

I'm running Windows 2000 Pro.
