Exchange laptop battery while the computer is ON
Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 1564 Laptop.
Is it possible to exchange the fully charged battery with empty battery while the computer is ON and while it's attached with the adequate charger?
I need to charge two battery packs, to take them with me while I'm travelling. and I don't have time for restart!
Thank you for your help.

You should turn it off to replace the battery.

OK,
So, Also, A hibernate could help, But I should wait for POWER and HDD LEDs to completely turn OFF. then I'm obligated to entirely remove the AC adapter, and to wait until the charging LED turns OFF.
I thought there should be some tool to make battery safe removal as in USB bus!

No, you do not need to turn off before a battery swap. I have done it many times on many laptops.

Dear KirkD and swimmyforce,
I appreciate your help.
As you see I received two confusing responses
How to know which one is the correct answer?
But I had an old ACER Aspire 5215 Laptop,
Unfortunately, the Smart Lithium Ion Battery circuit which is located inside the battery pack was damaged cause of battery swap while in charging position.
I read that removing USB Flash memory from the computer without selecting safe remove device, could damage the south bridge in some models, or it could damage the protection circuit, or the flash itself in other cases.
We can do that 1000 times without any trouble, but damaging the device is possible!
How could we know that from Dell Authorized Technician? :emotion-18:

The reason you select Remove Device before removing USB flash drives or camera cards is to allow all the writing activity to be finished before removal. This ensures you don't get corrupted files. The electrical connections to the USB are still active, so if something can happen to fry the USB device, it will happen either way.
The only way to harm the circuity inside a batery is a power surge or short circuit. You could have the same situation either installing the battery while the powersupply is plugged in or the batteryis installed when you plug the power supply into the wall or into the DC socket on the laptop.
Don't worryabout it.
