Extending warranty after purchase?

Hi there. Looking around the forums I've seen a lot of people recommending purchasing the longest warranty. I've recently purchased an M1730 (still not received though) but only with the basic warranty simply because it broke the bank. I'm wondering is it possible to purchase an extended warranty towards the end of the basic warranty? And would it be at any extra cost or just what it would have cost originally? And finally, how does one go about doing it? Thanks for the help!

Call tech support and mention you want to extend it. lol. Every time I call about anything they are always telling me that I have a year or so left and they ask if I want to extend it on the spot with them :P

When it gets down to 3 months left I will put the final year of contract onto it ;)

Yes you can extend it later on but it will not be the same price when you first purchased.

here click extend and upgrade warranty, http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/warranty/warranty_information?~ck=ln&c=us&l=en&lnki=0&s=gen .

Wait for a few months before extending the warranty. Dell will sometimes send out a special offer. Sometime at a discount and usually with a coupon ($75) good at Dell.

So I just received an offer to extend my 1 year which is up next week to 8/2011.

Cost is $249 & I get a $50 dell certificate.

Im thinking this is a good buy but Im so leary of extended warranties as I used to sell them myself when I was in sales at Sears many years ago.

How about a few words of ecouragement or warning from the bleechers! :smileyhappy:
