Finding the right Part Numbers
Hi, I am trying to find the right part numbers so I can buy a new Motherboard for a Precision M65 Mobile Workstation. I have the Service Tag No. < ADMIN NOTE : Service tag removed privacy policy >, but that doesn't give me the info. for the System Board, Processor, etc. Can someone give me some help? Thanks,

That's it - YY709.
www.ascendtech.us/itemdesc.asp
(it is shared with the Latitude D820).

The part number starts with DP/N - look on the board near the memory sockets.

I turned the computer over and removed one of the memory sticks and there was a sticker under it with a long bar code but there wasn't "DP/N". This one said CN-0YY709-48643-6CL-2031 Rev A00

PP04x is the Dell model code. The other one is the part number for the label, presumably.

The most important thing to remember on these Precision Laptops is that because they are the same board in the Latitude range, Dell in their ultimate wisdom made all the boards with the Precision BIOS and when the board was swapped out under warranty for whatever reason, the Engineer would have to flash the BIOS to the Latitude if it was going into a Latitude Machine or leave it as it was if it was going into a Precision.
Unfortunately once the BIOS has been flashed DOWN to LATITUDE YOU CANNOT FLASH IT BACK TO PRECISION!!! There are web sites out there that will give you the command to use to force the flash BUT that is only the flash down command .
So the just of this is to say although you might order what you think is the correct part ie YY709 or G722K or any other if it is not a pull from a a Precision or direct from Dell chances are it will be flashed to the latitude BIOS you will not be able to flash it back at all and although it will work as a laptop you will not have all the extra functionality the precision has
