There is no way to use any firewire device on this model - you either need a new device (USB, not firewire) or a different notebook that either has a firewire port or an Express Card socket for adding one (the latter are now generally on only business-class systems or high-end models - not on budget or mainstream multimedia models like the one you have).

Just in case you do not have a manual, you can download the manual for your system here:

You will have to use a video camera with a USB connection.

I have an audio mixer that has only a firewire output.  Is there a way to use it with a computer without a firewire port.  There are adapters from firewire to usb, but lots of comments that they will not work.  The manual is completely mute on the subjects of both firewire and expansion capability for the Inspiron N7110.

The  mixer was the device the original poster was trying to connect  -- he or she replaced with a new one using a USB interface.   You'll need a new camcorder with a USB interface in order to replace your firewire device for use with your non-firewire system.
