High CPU usage when docked using dual external displays
Hello,
I have a Latitude D410 (running Windows XP Pro SP2) and dock it in a D/Port hooked to two 2405FPW displays, one using VGA and one using DVI. It worked amazingly well for many months (and looks FANTASTIC), but sometimes approximately 50% of my CPU is being eaten up by the "igfxsrvc.exe" and "System" processes. If I undock, these processes immediately stop using a noticeable amount of the CPU.
The annoying thing is that sometimes this does not happen, so I know it is POSSIBLE for it to work as expected. I have tried a couple of different versions of the Intel graphics drivers (which is what provides igfxsrvc.exe) to no avail.
I have noticed that I can usually get rid of the high CPU usage by turning off all video hardware acceleration in Windows (Display Properties - Settings - Advanced - Troubleshoot - and moving the slider to the 2nd position from the left which reads "Disable all but basic accelerations" ). This seems like a hack more than a fix, though, because I would like to obviously leave hardware acceleration activated.
It is unsettling that I have done extensive searches of the Dell forums and not found anybody else experiencing this issue.
Can somebody provide any insight on this matter?
Thanks.
