Do you have the Realtek audio driver installed? If so you will see the words "Realtek High Definition Audio" on the Sounds properties (see the picture). If not you will see the words "High Definition Audio Device" in which case you should install the Realtek driver for your model.
Go to the Recording tab and set Stereo Mix as the default recording device.
If you don't see Stereo Mix on your Recording tab, right click on the blank area and look for it under disabled or disconnected devices.
Jimco, this solution worked fine at the time. I have been away for a few months and now find that even with these settings I cannot get sound through Nero 9 Wave Editor. I have gone to the "Dell Audio by Realtek" menu and tried one-by-one turning settings off and on, but to no avail. Any ideas? - b22bill
If stereo mix is your default recording device and its volume is not set to zero or muted, then there is probably a configuration problem in your recording software. I am not familiar with Nero Wave editor so don't know what you should check there.
