How do I switch from battery power to AC power?

My Inspiron's battery has run out of power, yet when i plug it in to the A/C it doesn't seem to be recharging, so i cannot get the laptop to turn on at all now. Does anyone know how to get it to start charging via the A/C plug?

I am having a similar problem. How old is your PC? What are your use habits? Any chance the battery could be worn out? I read on the automated help e/mail that Dell sent that the batteries wear out after a year. They also say that everything depends on usage. Apparently heavy usage of the DVD can cause extra battery drain. Are you still under warranty? If so, you can try to get e/mail help. Part of the automated e/mail that I got suggests removing the battery to physically inspect it for damage. Has the pc been dropped?
Also, did you check with the list of batteries recalled to see if yours is on the list?
Just a few suggestions.
Luck,
