Post your model computer and operating system and why you want to uninstall it. If you ever want to use it you would need to reinstall it. You can also return to factory settings by pressing F8 as soon as you reboot-- Follow the directions for PC Restore here: support.dell.com/.../document If you have Windows 7, you should use Backup & Restore to make system images (store on an external drive) and system repair disk. A system repair cd can be used as a boot disk to access Recovery Tools, including Factory Settings.

So I do not need Dell DataSafe Local Backup to restore my pc (Windows 7) to manufactures settings? Since I am using the default basic version, would uninstalling it affect anything?

Weatherman97,

I would not use a CD-RW to make disks.

I made the Windows 7 - IMPORTANT Windows 7 Backup Disks to create

After they're made, I use 2 DVD -R's, and then you can remove Dell Data Safe if you want. Not sure how manay CD's it would take.

The procedure to use would then be Restoring Your Dell Computer to Original Factory Installation with Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0

Using the Recovery partition is the easiest method but if the hard drive fails, then use the above method.

Restoring Your Computer´s Software to the Factory Settings

I'm fond of the hidden factory 20GB "RECOVERY" image partitioned on HDD . It makes restoring PC to factory condition almost painless. I would transfer personal files to an external HDD before touching the factory Recovery image. I also create recovery images on external media just in case HDD Recovery fails.  I'm also curious why you want to tamper with Datasafe?

I would like to uninstall Dell DataSafe Local Backup for three reasons. It gives me annoying pop-ups all the time that it wants to update(which I do not wish to do). Second I feel that its taking up an unnecessary large amount of memory, and   if I need to restore my pc to manufacture settings in case of a complete failure(which I doubt will ever happen)and do it without Dell DataSafe Local Backup, whats the point of having the basic edition then?

Weatherman97,

If you created the disks from the above thread, then it's safe to remove Dell Data Safe.

25% of my SSD?  Really??   When a hard drive dies....its dies.  System backups should be on EXTERNAL HARD drives!!  Please Mr. Dell.

For real. A $2 USB restore drive in the box would fix this issue. No need for datasafe, no hassle for the user, no giant 20GB partition on a tiny SSD, restore files there when you need them. I really don't understand why Dell (and other PC manufacturers) don't do this.
