How to change click sounds on touchpad buttons

I have a new Inspiron laptop with Windows 8.  The left button on the touchpad makes a very loud clicking sound when you use that button.  The right button does not.  This loud click makes it impossible to use in a meeting as it is very distracting to everyone.  How can I modify - or silence - the clicking sound on the touchpad buttons?

Thanks!

Hi painthorse60,

Please share the system model. The clicking noise is coming from the touchpad or it comes from the Windows when you click the mouse.

Keep me posted with the information. I will be glad to assist you.

I just received my new Inspiron 15 yesterday.  I have the same loud click on the touchpad.  It is the hardware -- anytime you click on the touchpad, it is ridiculously loud.  Probably going to return it and buy a different brand.  It makes the computer feel cheap and is very distracting to others.  If I were in a meeting, everyone would be looking at me!!  I searched for a fix and there seems to be none.  We have 2 Alienware laptops in the house and they are wonderful.  Not sure what is going on with this Inspiron...

Mine is an Inspiron 15 too. I haven't been able to find a way to quiet it down either. I'm very disappointed as I have always bought Dell laptops and been very satisfied. This will be the last one as I can't use it anywhere but at home. Very distracting!!

This is complete and utter lying to say that the clicking sound was by design.

Its cheap pathetic attempt to cover up a HUGE failing on these dell laptops.

It sounds like playing Maraccas. I'm either going to return this thing for a refund, or get a job with a Mexican band playing the "Dell".
