How to digit the tilde character using the Italian keyboard in a Studio 1555 notebook
I've a Studio 1555 laptop with an Italian keyboard.
How can I digit the tilde character under dos prompt without using copy and past or the char map?

The general procedure is to type with the ASCII code for the character. On laptops without a numeric keypad, you must use the embedded numeric keypad, m=0, to 9=9., and you need to have the Number Lock ON and hold Fn and at the same time as you are typing in the numbers. The ASCII for the tilde 126, so Fn 126 gets the tilde, ~, on a laptop, 126 on any unit with a real numeric pad.

Hi KirkD, thanks for your reply. The problem is that my laptop don't have an embedded numeric pad, so I can't go through the ASCII code solution.

If it doesn't have a separate numeric keypad, then it will have n embedded one. I looked at a picture of the 1555 Italian keyboard (NOT on the Dell site), an saw that the embedded keypad is NOT printed on the keys as with the American boards. The pad must be there. Try some of the keys using the function keys as I described earlier in a document file to see if it indeed works. The keys for 0 to 9 are: m,j,k,l,u,i,o,7,8,9.

I've tested it but don't seems to work. I can confirm you there is not embedded numeric pad on Italian keyboard :(. Other than using ASCII code there are other ways to digit the tilde character?
