Under Windows XP, DV devices do not require additional drivers - but you may wish to check with your DV camera documentation just to be certain - my Panasonic GS5 didn't require any.

Does the unit work on any other  machine equipped with firewire?  Can you test this?  It may be possible that the fault is with the camera, or perhaps the firewire port on the DV cam needs to be enabled somehow.

Thanks for your help. I bought a new camcorder (Cannon ZR65) It works right away. So I guess I just had a bad firewire port on my Panasonic. Oh well, at least I know what's wrong now. I never used that port before; and now when I tried to use it, It's dead. I used to think Panasonic was the most reliable company in making electronic's. I am pretty happy with my Cannon now. Thanks.

Long shot, but have you tried looking at the menu options on the DV camera to see if you have to turn firewire on. It could be defaulting to off to save power. I know my Sony disables USB and firewire by default.

Hi. I have been browsing these message boards for info on this kind of stuff. Maybe you can help me. I just got a Canon ZR65 as well. I have an Inspiron 5100 with DVD burner. I want to transfer my video to the computer so I can edit and make DVD's. What kind of firewire adapter/conncetion do I need? I do not have a firewire port currently on my notebook. Thanks! I appreciate any help!

I never tought it could be this easy, but i changed firewire cable and it works now =)))

i mean how can a new cable be corrupt, thats the thing you last expect.

well it got me bussy for some hours, now i tell all Panasonic owners that its no problem

with DELL 8500 and DV-Cameras.
