Infrared ?

You should go into your bios. My system is an inspiron 8500 so I can't guide you step by step, but I can give you a few hints. Very few people use the Infrared port, so by default it is deactivated. To turn it on, power your computer on, when the bios screen comes up, press the key combination that allows you to enter setup mode (check your manual for that). Then look for a page with your infrared settings and choose a port that is not used (typically com3 should be fine). After you activate the port I suggest you go on device manager to turn it on and off according to your needs. If you don't use it often I suggest you leave it off to save battery power. There is no Infrared port on the 5150.

jk is right, i5150 doesn't have an infared port.

Never mind I did not know about the 5150. Sorry about the misunderstanding, I hope this post will help someone else.
