Inspiron 1525 Webcam not working

I upgraded my 1525 to Windows 8.1 a couple of months ago, from its original Windows Vista. Microsoft's helpdesk were overseeing the Upgrade for me and verified the Laptop met the System Requirements. It has all worked okay until recently when I tried to use Skype, and found my "Laptop Integrated Webcam" and Integrated Microphone do not work. I worked with Microsoft, but they claim everything is okay with 8.1 and that I should work with Dell to get the correct "Driver" to work with my Hardware, (and 8.1). I have tried uninstalling the current driver (Creative Technology version 1.4.1.1011) and "restarting" to have it reinstall automatically, without success. Can anyone help me to resolve this, please ?? It seems I need to manually install a different driver, but I do not know of one that will solve the issue !! Dell just seems to state that my 1525 was not designed for 8.1, and therefore I am wondering if another manufacturer has a driver that will work ??

Hi,

We can't provide a driver for you that will run Windows 8.1 on that system, since it was never developed or certified for that operating system, but you've already heard that.

What I did was google "Creative Technologies webcam driver Windows 8.1" and it led me to this page. That page is a list of all the drivers for Win8.   You can see if any of those webcam drivers will work for you. They also have a few links on their support pages for discussions on Win 8.1 drivers, etc.  Not sure if they have a discussion board or not, but they do have a Contact Us page, so maybe they can help.

Hopefully that will lead you to find a resolution to your webcam problem.   Please stop back and let us know if this helped at all.

Hi,

I followed your suggestion and contacted "Creative Technologies Support", however this was unsuccessful because they state that my product is an OEM product from Dell, and that any support needed for my product should be provided directly by Dell. Further, they specify that any "drivers" or "applications" that they "customized" for my Dell Inspiron 1525 in the past are now the responsibility of Dell to support/upgrade (I can forward the relevant emails to you, if required). Just as a reminder, please find below my relevant details:-

My Laptop is Dell 1525 bought in 2008, with Windows Vista 32-bit

Upgraded to Windows 8.1 32-bit about four months ago (under direction from Microsoft)

Webcam driver is Creative Technologies version 1.4.1.1011 dated 11/10/2007

Dell Webcam Center is from Creative Technologies, version is now 2.01.26

To reiterate, my Webcam will work okay with Dell Webcam Center but will not work with the Camera and Skype Programs bundled into Windows 8.1 (it appears that these programs do not recognize my Webcam).

Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

JSF.

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that they can't help you.  Unfortunately, neither can we.   That system shipped with either XP or Vista, and those are the only drivers that our engineers are going to produce for that system.

If you can't get that webcam to work in Win8, and having a functioning webcam is crucial, you may want to look at getting a USB connected webcam that is compatible with Windows 8.   Or, if that is not a viable option for you, then perhaps reinstalling Windows Vista on your system, for which we would have drivers available.

Sorry that we couldn't be of more help but as I said, our engineers won't develop Win8 drivers for that old of a laptop.

Final update on my previous problems with Dell "Laptop Integrated Webcam" and "Integrated Microphone". I am pleased to advise everything works fine now with these features, on my Dell 1525 Laptop running Windows 8.1 32 bit (all other features of my Laptop are working well, too).

The "breakthrough" for me came when my Skype program "asked" me to Upgrade to its latest version. After performing the Upgrade, and configuring the Upgraded Skype to use my "Integrated Webcam and Microphone" everything then worked first time. So, I can now make Skype Video calls without any problem whatsoever, and my Webcam works fine with Dell Webcam Central !!

Skype Upgraded Version 7.2.0.103
