Inspiron 1545 Core 2 Duo P8600 Windows 7 Virtualization
I'm currently running Windows 7 RC 32-Bit (Build 7100) and trying to get the new "XP Mode" to work on my Inspiron 1545 with no luck. The laptop has the Intel® Core™2 Duo Mobile Processor P8600 running at 2.40 GHz which has support for Virtualization which is required for "XP Mode". I've contacted Dell's software and hardware support and neither group has been able to get it working.
The error I'm getting is:
Running various utilities I've discovered that Windows recognizes the hardware supports Virtualization but the feature is currently disabled in the bios. Checking in the Bios, I do not have an option to turn Virtualization on or off. Checking the Bios was the first thing the support groups had me check. The last tech I talked to said even though the option is not there, Virtualization by default is always enabled on this laptop/cpu combination.
The current version of the Bios is A05 (2/25/2009). I have also attempted flashing older versions of the Bios to see if it would clear up the issue (A01 - 11/30/2008 & A02 - 2/2/2009). All three versions are missing the option to enable/disable Virtualization. I even made sure the laptop was performing a cold boot by pulling the A/C adaptor and battery. Best I can tell this causes a cold boot b/c the Bios screen takes a significant amount of time to load (same way it does the first time you boot the laptop from the factory).
I used Intel® Processor Identification Utility to verify the processor:
Also used Securable to verify:
Has anyone else been able to get this to work??
