Inspiron 1545 replaced power jack but still not working

The computer stopped seeing the adapter and will not run on electricity.  Will only run on the battery.  I take the battery out and it dies immediately.  I replaced the power jack and the computer still won't run on electricity.  Only the battery.  I've unplugged the adapter long enough for the led to go out and still won't book with only the power adapter plugged in.  It's not the adapter because that adapter works on another computer which is how I charge the battery on my 1545.  What else should I do?
