Inspiron 1720 Battery Charger
I am looking to replace my original battery charger, a PA-10 Family. I have been shopping on E-Bay for a new Dell original charger and I noticed that even if they are manufacture by Dell there is a difference with the input amperage. My charger has an input current with 2A and the ones for sale that I have seen have an input of 1.5A. I believe it is because my laptop has a 17" monitor and it requires stronger current than a 15" 14" or 13" laptop. I would like to know if it would cause any trouble to my pc if I buy a charger with an input of 1.5A instead of 2A.

Yes, it will. You need a 90W or higher adapter - DON'T buy a 65-W unit for it.

How does the input amperage affects the output amperage of the battery charger? Does it affects the output of the electric current or once it enters the charger it is converted to the output current which gives 4.62A and at that point the input amperage does not mean anything anymore?

It'll depend on the efficiency of the power supply. If the output current is 4.62 A (1 A = 1 Coulomb/sec), then the output voltage has to be about 19.5 (1 V = 1J/coulomb).
That way 4.62 C/s times 19.5 J/C gives 90 J/s (aka 90 watts).
