I went straigt to the utility as well when I got my 1720 with the 1900x1200 screen. But I found that adjusting the color sliders made other colors look funny. I have the Nvidia control panel.
Was your white actually blue or were your photos just too cool looking? If I turn up the red channel, it makes the menu bar and other stuff look funny. And white is no longer white.
What settings did you find that worked for you?

I played around a little more with the settings and found that lowering the brightness of the blue channel to 30% makes things look better. I'll have to compare it with my other monitors to see if it is acceptable.
Thanks for the inspiration =)
