Inspiron 17r battery replacement?
I have a perfectly fine inspiron 17r. However, the battery will not hold a charge.
Dell no longer sells replacement batteries, so I purchased one online. Generic.
It is 86% charged, but the computer will not work. It died. The seller says it is fine, but I may have to clear something.
If Dell isn't going to sell replacement batteries, I think it fair that they help get other batteries to work. Any instructions for windows 10 would be greatly appreciated!!! Help!

Hi TUSKFXR,
What is the exact system model?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Is the adapter detected in BIOS?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
You could also order the replacement batteries from here based on the system model if available.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I wrote a private Message to Dell - Rishi. Part of the note explained that the seller of the battery I bought...Dell does NOT sell the battery I need anymore, by the way, said I should
remove adaptor
install battery only
clean the CMOS, initial BIOS setting....WHAT IS THIS? HOW DO I DO THIS?
I am a complete novice, I need step by step.
Thanks
