Inspiron 6400 Battery Not Charging

Question

Hi, I have a 4 year old Inspiron 6400 and replaced the battery with a genuine Dell unit in July. No problems until last week. The battery does not charge and when i look at the power meter shows the battery at 0% with a red X through it.  When I press the battery test button it is dead with no LEDs lighting . I have tried the forums but cannot find this specific problem. Any help would be very much appreciated. Peter C

Go into BIOS setup - check if the AC power adapter is listed by it's capacity (ie: 90 Watt / 60 Watt)

If it's listed as unknown adapter the battery will not be charged and remain empty.

There are several other causes for a laptop battery not to charge.
