Inspiron 7500 CPU upgrades

I read sometime ago here that CPU upgrades on the Inspiron 7500 are possible, albeit a procedure that requires time and care. There was a website that detailed the procedure in picture form. Does anyone have the URL?

Also, what is the maximum speed processor module that could be safely installed in an Inspiron 7500? I seem to think they never went above 700/750Mhz with this laptop? Can someone please confirm this and recommend a supplier of the appropriate hardware, either in the UK, or a US supplier who is willing to ship to the UK.

Thanks for any help.

stephen:

You are correct in that the Inspiron 7500 system was never validated for processors exceeding 750MHz. Please note that your system's hard drive and RAM can be upgraded under your system's warranty. Upgrading your video card or CPU can invalidate your warranty if damage to the system occurred as a result of the upgrade.

I upgraded my inspiron 7500 C433 to PIII 850/700 and all is ok, my mobo is A08 (look at the ram compartment).

All is ok, speedstep was recongnised by my windows 2000 without trouble

I put a year  ago 2x256 Mo PC100 of RAM from crucial on it. you muste have PC100 RAM

Don't woory about the fsb rating (66 or 100Mhz), the selection is made on the MMC-2 card and not on the motherboard. so maybe all mobo can function.

You must use an efficace termal compoud before installing the heat exchanger (the one puttted by DELL dead at the removal). I used with success the ARTIC SILVER 3 (The same one that used on normal processors).

I also upgraded my cd rom to a SAMSUNG SN-308b combo DVD/CDRW. I raped lightely the face to go on, the result was perfect and it works fine

Good Luck

Did you have to use a MMC2 CPU?  The highest speed MMC2 CPU I could find is 600MHz.
