Inspiron 7720 won't power up
My laptop turn will not power up, circumstances I shut it down yesterday, packed it up, when I tried turning it on an hour later at school I couldn't get it to turn on.
Is this a hardware issue that can be repaired?
Computer: Inspiron 7720-17R, i17Rse-3589BK, Intel i7-3630QM
A. I have checked the power chord it works on my older backup Inspiron17, I two power adaptors the work. the original Dell and an after market rocket fish. both work on my older model Inspiron 17.
B. Without the power chord: open the lid, press the power button, it does not turn on the computer on or light up, none of the indicator lights do not light up.
C. When I plug the power adaptor in to laptop:
1. the power indicator light on the laptop does not light up showing it is plugged in.
2. pressing the press the power button it does not turn light up or turn the computer on, none of indicator lights do not light up.
3. (Original Dell power adaptor) the blue light at the end of the power chord goes out.
4. (Rockfish aftermarket power adaptor) the blue light on the adaptor goes from a solid blue to a blinking blue light.
Thanks Fred

Hi thelonegunman59,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check for issue resolution.
If the light indicator on the AC adapter goes OFF when connected to the system then there seems to be short on the motherboard. You would need to replace the system board on the laptop.

For your board (non Dell link)
You can also try to buy a docking station, but I do not know that model. Make sure it is the non-USB docking station. The USB one may work if it has a USB to bridge driver adapter.

Thank you, DELL-Ravi BC
looks like Ill be have to get to a new motherboard, but I guess its better than replacing the whole thing.
As soon as I saw the light going out on the AC power adaptor, I figured there was short in the hardware just not sure were, the battery wasn't hot and it had been operating normally.
Before I posted I had called dell and we tried the steps you suggested, I also read several good articles from the Dell website.
Article ID: SLN292599: Resolve No Power, No POST, No BOOT or No Video Issues With Your Dell Computer
Article ID: SLN155074: How to Troubleshoot a No Power Issue on a Notebook PC
Again thank you

? thanks for the link, the install and removal instructions are very useful.
A docking station wouldn't solve the problem, because it works the same as a AC power adaptor.
Since power stops at the end of both of my AC adaptors the conclusion is the problem lies somewhere within the laptop.
Thanks to your link the first part I am going look at is the DC power input jack.
thanks again
