Inspiron 9300 memory upgrade - worth it?
My Inspiron 9300 max's out at 2gb RAM and is currently running 2gb PC4200 533mhz. Dell says that, to squeeze more speed out of my machine, I should upgrade to PC6400 at 800mhz. My CPU: Processor, 80536, Pentium M Dothan, Pentium M Dothan, 2.13GHZ, 2 MEGB, 533FSB
Will my machine support 800mhz memory and would the upgrade from 533mhz to 800mhz make enough of a difference that it would be worth shelling out the $$$ ?
It gets to the point that it feels like Dell sales will try to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge when all you need and all you can use is an erector set.
Any input?
Brett

Firstly please delete the service tag details from your post otherwise Dell will delete it.
The external bus frequency of the Inspiron 9300 is 533 MHz.. Therefore there is nothing to gain by fitting memory capable of clocking at 800 MHz the reason being that the 800 MHz memory will be clocked at 533 MHz..

Thanks for the response. I had seen somewhere in a system config that my MB was running at 800mhz which is why i asked.
Dell deleting Tech Support Forum posts that include the system service tag is ridiculous. They won't talk to us unless we are under warranty. They either ask usto pay $50 for an instance of support or refer us to the community forums. But if we try to ask for an educated answer based on the specifics of our individual machine (what better way than to look up a service tag), they delete out posts??? What a joke.

The chipset in the Inspiron 9300 is the Intel 915PM. The maximum memory speed supported by this chipset is 533 MHz. You can be sure that the 800 MHz figure that you saw relating to the MB does not apply to the memory.
Dell regards the service tag details as confidential between Dell and the registered owner of their product.
