Inspiron B130 network drivers

I have an old B130 laptop wich has been in storage for a couple years now. I cannot connect to the internet through my wireless due ti I think the drivers are not there. I have tried to download them to a memory stick and load them but it won't take it. What do I need to do or buy? Thanks in advance, Gene

kd5exp,

You didn't recently install XP SP3, correct?

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager). Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Click on advanced. Look for Antenna Diversity. Change the Antenna Diversity from Auto to Aux.

Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled

Download and run WinSock XP Fix

Your Ethernet adapter is Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller, v.4.37, A13

Can you connect?

Gene,

Hit the Windows key and the r keys at the same time. Type

winver

Hit enter. Tell me the operating system and which service pack is installed.

Does the wireless adapter show in the device manager?

What type of security are you using on your wireless router? What channel?

kd5exp,

Run the Norton Removal Tool then restart your computer. It's possible it may be causing the connection problem.

kd5exp,

Did you run WinsockXPFix?

How can I disable wireless configuration services and enable the Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration services

Restart the computer and press F12 at startup. Run the full diagnostics. Report back any error codes.

I removed the Norton and downloaded the drivers for the ethernet. Now the yellow is gone from the ethernet icon. When I try to connect I get and error code 0xooc0008. Beyond me I think

Diag passed all tests. Going to have to go for now. Need to fix dinner. My wife has had a stroke so I take care of her. I'll be back. Gene

Gene,

Download and save to your desktop...

Dell Wireless 1350/1450/1370/1470 WLAN MiniPCI Card, Wireless 1350 WLAN PC Card, Wireless (US) WLAN Card, Wireless 1490 Dual-Band WLAN MiniCard, Wireless 1390 WLAN ExpressCard, Wireless 1390/1500/1505 WLAN mini Card Driver

Make a system restore point.

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager). Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click, uninstall. Tell it to remove the software and drivers.

Restart your computer. When you login, the new hardware wizard will try to install the adapter and fail. Install the drivers saved to your desktop.

I removed the wireless and Ethernet and rebooted but still nothing. It won't let me run WinSock because it won't go online. The wireless and Ethernet are both back in there. It does find the wireless signal just won't connect to it. 15MM is the name of my network. It says Status: Acquiring network address.

kd5exp,

Make and model of your wireless router and the type of security you're using? What channel?

On a system other than XP, can you run Network Interface and post that information back here.

You can also try...

Hit the Windows key and the r keys at the same time. Type

cmd

Hit enter. Type

netsh winsock reset catalog

This will reset the winsock catalog

Restart the computer.

I did it and the winsock reset looked like it worked. It still says acquiring network address. It sees the router and a couple other weak ones but still wont get an address.
