Inspiron E1405 Laptop
I have a Dell Inspiron laptop with the following configuration:
1.60 Intel dual-prc
2.0 GB Memory
160GB HD
Win XP with SRC Pack 3
The question tht I have is this. When Win 7 is released I plan on updating the OS to Win 7 I am thinking of going to the 64 bit OS, but I was wondering if this laptop will handle more than the advertised 2 GB of memory - I realize that it has just the two slots. Now I also have a XPS-410 that is advertised the same, but I know that it will handle the 2 GB memory for a total of 8 GB total. I am wondering if this laptop is the same that each slot will handle the 2GB chip for a total of 4 GB in the memory department?
If I can only have the 2 GB memory then I will probably install the 32 bit OS here and 64 on the desktop.
Thanks in advance for your assistance in this manner.

While the system will take 4G of RAM, its chipset -- the Intel 845 -- does not support memory remapping, so even with a 64-bit OS, you won't see all 4G of RAM. The chipset cannot be upgraded, so it's your choice as to whether to use 64-bit or 32-bit WIndows 7 - just don't expect the 64-bit version to show more than 4G of RAM.
