I dont really remember. I went to the dell site that had all of the drivers and I pretty much installed them one by one from top to bottom on the list untill I had installed all recommended and some optional drives.
Here's the fix for no sound from laptop to TV via HDMI connection. It's not a sound, video card problem AND THERE IS NO EFFECTIVE "PATCH" FOR THIS. i'VE TRIED THEM ALL... It's a VISTA problem FIXED BY DOING THE FOLLOWING;HOWEVER, YOU HAVE TO REVERSE THE PROCEDURE EACH TIME YOU WANT SOUND BACK TO YOUR LAPTOP SPEAKERS:

Hey Howardsfamily.
since you're using WinXP on your E1405 laptop I think you need to install the KB888111 HD Audio XP hotfix first:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111
then install the Sigmatel audio drivers from Dell's R171789 package.
are u using WinXP with SP2 or SP3?
btw - I also use the E1405 notebook computer but has pre-installed Vista

- Go to Windows Media Center
- Go to tasks
- Go to settings
- Go to general
- Go to Windows Media Center Setup
- Go to set up your speakers and click next
- Choose Toslink (digital) and click next
- Choose two speakers and click next
VISTA is the problem -- not your drivers, etc.
