No.

Clear the CMOS Settings and see if the Drive is AHCI or ATA mode.

I will investigate and get back.

I have discovered the computer will boot from cd/dvd and from a usb flash drive.  I was able to roll back the bios to ver a04.  bios ver a02 and a01 get error messages when they try to flash, and the bios stays at ver a04.  The bios setup screen sees 4gb of mem (3.25 usable) and a 500 gb hd, but shows no other info in the hd.

Ok, I went into the setup menu during post, hit alt+f to reset the bios and rebooted, I went into the bios setup menu and selected factory defaults, saved the change and rebooted, I powered off and pulled the button battery connector while pressing the power button for 10 seconds - had to reset system time and date and rebooted.

I can find no documentation for the drive or the computer to tell me about the mode.  There is nothing about ahci or ata mode in the bios setup menu.  The hd is a seagate momentus 5400.6 500 gb 2.5 in laptop harddrive.

The computer boots from a usb flash drive.  It boots from any number of cd's i have that are bootable and the installed hd shows up in the disc copy and cloning programs, but when the computer attempts to boot from the installed hd it reboots.

Repair update, Friday night ...

I found a bart pe recovery disk left in a computer that came home from the shop a while back.  It has several disk utilities on it and they all see the installed hd.  I've saved all the data from the drive that is needed, but I still want to get the hd drive to boot.

The computer will boot from a usb flash drive, and a cd/dvd.  Booting from a win xp install disk caused a bsod when it started to write files to the drive.  Booting from an external ide/usb hd also resulted in the bsod.  booting from the installed hd does not result in a blue screen - it just restarts the post (Dell) screen.

I can see and copy the files on the drive using some of the utilities in the bart cd.  I'm learning what some of the bart utilities are and what they do, hopefully before I use any of them.  I still need help getting the hd to boot sucessfully, as it came with win 7 but not with an installation dvd.

the BIOS or CMOS menu does not show any settings related to AHCI or ATA mode.  I can boot from a USB flash drive or a cd, and disk utilities on those can see and read files from the installed hd.  I still can't boot from the installed hd.
