Inspiron M5030 Black Screen on Boot
As the topic says, when I boot my dell Inspiron M5030, I just get a black screen, no beeping and yes I've connected the external out to a monitor with no success. It was working fine a few days ago, I shut it down and went to bed, got up the next day and this started. The power light comes on, the HDD light lights up and blinks so I know that something is either being written to or read from the HDD, but I don't get the POST screen that says DELL or anything... Just a blank screen. I would say it's the back light but the screen has a white hue to it and to my knowledge that is the back light on the screen.
I've checked the RAM, HDD, etc. to make sure it was seated correctly still.
I removed the battery from the MOBO in hopes to reset the CMOS to maybe get some kind of screen but it resulted in the "System Time Off" beeps (5 beeps) but they stopped after a reboot.

What I ended up doing was remove the heat sink from the CPU and video chip and they had like a foam rubber pad on it. I removed that and put thermal compound on and it has been working great. Sometimes if I use it all day the screen may start blanking out but so far no more beeps on boot. If you do what I suggested before it will not hurt it, but i recommend doing what I explained in this post after you get it back up and running. Let me know how it works out.

Hi Sodacycle,
I appreciate for the trouble shooting steps tried to resolve the issue. The steps performed should have resolved the issue. Since the system is not responding, I request you to perform one last test that is to run diagnostics. Shut the system down, press the Fn + power button which will launch diagnostics. You may also refer to the following link for assistance:

Thanks for the reply, although nothing seemed to happen after I hit FN + Power Button to turn on the laptop. The screen remained black/blank, I just connected the Ethernet to my router and the laptop shows up on the DHCP client list so windows has booted but the screen still shows black/blank. It would seem that the only solution now is to get a new MOBO or a new computer all together. Unless someone has something else I can try.

I tried again holding FN a little longer after turning the laptop on.. although the screen was black, I hit Enter and then Y, Then Enter again and it started the diagnostics process, I assume... I couldn't see anything but at the end it started making some interesting noises. I got; 3 beeps with a pause, 3 beeps with a pause, 3 beeps with a pause, then 3 fast lower toned beeps with a pause, 3 fast lower toned beeps with a pause, 3 fast lower toned beeps with a pause and repeat the process...
I looked at the chart here to see what 3 beeps indicated and I see one of the options is "System Board Chipset Failure". There isn't much I can do without seeing something on the screen.

I went a step further and ran BIST based on step 5 here. It passed, the screen flashed several colors and then went back to a blank/black screen.

Hi Sodacycle,
As you suggested 3 beeps indicate that it is a motherboard failure. However I request to connect an external monitor to check if there is display on the external monitor. Let me know the status.

External Monitor shows displays black screen and then goes into power saving mode as if nothing is connected to the laptop.

Hi Sodacycle,
Since there is no display even on the external monitor, you may consider replacing the motherboard. Please click on the link below to check the warranty of the system. In case the system is under warranty, send me a private message with the system service tag to assist you further. Please click on my name and click Start Conversation to send me a private message.

This may be too late of a post but I just came into possession of an Inspiron M5030 and was having the 7 beeps with blank screen at start and the blanking of the screen while in the OS. What I did was use the fix for the 7 beeps. Take the laptop and power it on. Wrap it in a thick towel or a comforter so that it is completely enclosed. Let it on for about 30 minutes. Then take it out and cool it off. I set it in front of my fan for about 15 minutes. I turned it on and so far not one screen blank. If this post is still active and you are looking for an answer, I will keep you updated on how long the screen issue stays gone.

Alright, while this method did not work for me it did make me realize my problem. For anyone else who has this beeping and failure to "turn on" problem, the problem I found was a melted motherboard. Your computer will still power up on the rare occasion, but normally it won't work. So far the only solution I can find is buying new parts or going with your warranty. Thanks again to everyone who helped me with this problem.
