Inspiron N5010 Microphone problems
Hi!
I am facing Microphone problems with my Inspiron N5010,
the camera is working well on applications like Skype,
but no one can hear me when i speak through the build in microphone,
all they can hear is a lot of noises.
I have reinstalled the camera driver,
but I haven't installed any cam program yet,
I have tried downloaded the Dell Webcam Central (Consumer) from the "My Download Locker " page
but the download has failed and an error message is displayed.
Can someone get me a direct link for the Dell Webcam Central (Consumer)?
Thanks! :emotion-2:

HI Monro,
Welcome to the Community. Below is the link to Dell Webcam Central. You may also want to update your Audio drivers.

Hi Mono,
Did you check if the microphone is working properly outside Skype. To check you can click on start, all programs, sound recorder, and start recording, and play it back to check if audio is fine. Check if the internal microphone is set to default, under start, control pane, sound, click on recording, and make sure the internal mic is set to default.
Thank you
Royan

Skype is actually quite good at detecting microphones, cameras etc - at least I have never experienced any problems with it - somehow a good testing tool ;-)
You might have already tested the Skype built in test facility "check settings" If you hit that button and choose the microphone tab you must see your built-in microphone in the dropdown list ! Right next to it you can press a "test button" to check your microphone. If the settings are right and it still does not work check your hardware with Dell diagnostics which is independent of the Windows operating system. If the mic is working you know it's a definitely a problem within windows.I would always recommend to make a quick hardware test before uninstalling, installing software(even though most of the time it's a software problem) because it doesn't hurt the system.....

If you have the Dell Driver CD that came with the laptop you should be fine. The CD(DVD) is bootable.Just insert the CD into your cdrom drive reboot the system, press F12 several times during boot and from the menu choose boot from CD/DVD drive-follow the instructions. You'll get a graphical menu.At first you will have to use the arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate. As soon as the drivers are loaded you can use the the touchpad.
If the CD does not work - you can download the (laptop specific!) iso-file from Dell's webpage. It works on my inspiron 1545

Instructions to download the Diagnostics
1. support.euro.dell.com/.../index.aspx
2. choose "drivers & Downloads
3. enter your Service Tag
4. under "category" choose "Diagnostics" from the dropdown list
5. choose Dell Diagnostics Utility
6. choose "CW1384A0.exe"
7. click download
Tip: before you execute the file create a new folder and install everything into it !
after executing the file look for the file DDDP.exe=> run the the file and choose "Create a bootable CD"
It will then create an diags.file which you can burn to a CDrom (right click on the file=>Open with/Windows Disk Image Burner)

Hi,
thanks for the help,
i have found the dell driver cd, the computer has passed the dell diagnostic test.
(The first and quick diagnostic)
What do I do next?
Does it mean something is wrong with my drivers?
I have installed the BIOS and the AUDIO drivers again- according to the latest drivers i got from Dell's Service Representative I have spoken to few days ago.
What do I do next?

Here is a thread from June this year-ask the one who posted it if he found a solution to his problem.

If your microphone has ever worked before I would try restoring the system back to an earlier time with Windows "System Restore" function

Usually - if it were my system - I would have done a complete and clean reinstallation of the operating system from scratch. In your case you might even be able to use Dell's restore backup facility. In your previous post you wrote that the mic the hardware test passed and so I assume you were able to record your own voice and play it back. That means that your windows configuration seems to be the culprit and so far you already did what would be the normal way to get the system back on track.(driver installation etc..)Knowing now that the hardware is fine reinstallation seems to be the next step....as long as nobody else comes up with a better idea. But ask the guy who posted the same problem a couple of months ago if he was able to fix his problem.
One last note:
Just for "fun" you could create a bootable USBstick with LinuxMint on it.Boot the system from that USB and see how well LinuxMint is getting on with your audio devices.LinuxMint easily detected my audio stuff(inspiron 1545) and chances are good that it also works with your system PLUS: you learn something knew ;-)
