Inspiron N5010 Motherboard Replacement

Hello..

I have been using DELL Inspiron N5010 with 512MB ATI Graphics for last 2 years. Yesterday while working on it the laptop went completely dead with no lights blinking on it neither the power button glows. I re pressed the power button but the laptop is not responding at all. I tried electrostatic discharge troubleshooting but it too had no effect on it. I contacted DELL and they told me that the motherboard needs replacement and would cost INR 11000. I feel its a costly investment and is it worth?? I don't understand how a fine working laptop motherboard may suddenly go faulty. My laptop is not under extended warranty.

Should I go for a replacement with dell or should i contact a local laptop repair shop.??

Only you can decide whether repair is worth the cost.  Note that  you get only a 90-day warranty on repairs no matter where - and if it's more than 50% of the cost of a replacement system, it may make more sense to replace rather than repair.

Hello Rahul Verma,

Dell provides 90 days warranty on repairs as stated by Ejn63. However, I would also like to say that contacting a local repair shop is not a bad idea. You may get the same motherboard at a lower cost.

Hello Rahul Verma,

The local technician might be able to find a motherboard (by any manufacturer) which is compatible with Inspiron N5010. The Dell part number that we have for the motherboard is specific to this system.
