Hi Nexus Habib,

Welcome to the Community.

Please share the exact processor number that you have tried to upgrade to. Dell has tested following processors on this system:

  • Intel Core i3-2310M Processor (3M Cache, 2.10 GHz)
  • Intel Core i5-2410M Processor (3M Cache, up to 2.90 GHz)
  • Intel Core i5-2520M Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.20 GHz)
  • Intel Core i5-2540M Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.30 GHz)
  • Intel Core i7-2620M Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.40 GHz)

Note: Dell does not recommend or offer processor upgrade, but it is your discretion in case you really wish to go ahead with it. Warranty per say, issues arising due to the upgrade will not be covered under warranty , however we will continue providing support for other issues and parts.

Also, please update the BIOS to the latest A12 version, before upgrading the processor. Here are the steps:

  • Please click on the link http://dell.to/1nNZjsp
  • Download and save the BIOS on the desktop.
  • Right click on it and select 'Run as administrator'.
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to update the BIOS.

Note: Make sure the ac adapter is connected and the battery is charged 10% or above to update the BIOS. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.

Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.

2. What about thermal pest? Do i need to replace them?

Hi Nexus Habib,

1. The 65W adapter is fine.
2. Yes, you need to replace the thermal paste.
3. No battery replacement is not required.
4. If the laptop is working fine with out any heating issue, then its not required.

You may choose the processor mentioned and it should work fine with the system.

Note: Dell does not recommend or offer processor upgrade but it is as your discretion in case you really wish to go ahead with it. Warranty per say, issues arising due to the upgrade will not be covered under warranty, however we will continue providing support for other issues and parts.

The only way to upgrade this model is by replacing the entire mainboard -- the CPU is soldered to the board and not separately replaceable.

There is an i7 board for this model:
