Inspiron n7110 memory error
So I have an out of warranty Inspiron 17r N7110. Over the last few weeks, I was getting constant BSOD at different times after startup, with different messages. I eventually ran a mem test, and saw errors in one of the ram sticks. So I took out the ram from the top slot, rebooted and ran with just 4 gb of ram. No blue screens so went on the assumption that the ram went bad, since that is a common thing to happen.
Got some new ram today, and put the two new ram sticks in. Again, the blue screen problems returned. And running mem test, it shows errors again in the first of the two ram sticks. No matter how I switch around the 4 ram sticks I have, it shows errors in the first stick it tests.
So now I'm thinking that the actual ram port went bad.
I've never heard of this happening. Does anyone know of what I can try to fix this issue? Or is this a part that can be fixed? Or is this a unfortunate complete motherboard replacement?

It sounds like a bad socket. The only definitive fix is a replacement board - however, if you've nothing to lose, you can try heating up the board to see if that re-flows the solder. REmove the board from the system and remove the CPU and as many plastic components as you can. Put the board on non-conductive tray and into a 350 degree F oven for about ten minutes. That may be enough to reconnect the socket properly.

HI,
First can we have the info on the RAM sticks you are trying to install? Voltage, speed, CL9 or CL11, are they matched pairs?
And these are compatible with your system:
4GB
DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V • • Part #: CT5297744
8GB Kit (4GBx2)
DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V • • Part #: CT5305772

The memory that I was replacing was the factory set.
It was replaced with pny 2x4 gb, 1333 mhx pc3-10666. Model number is MN819kd3-1333-ap. Unfortunately, can't find the voltage information.

That is not the right ram for the system.
THIS IS:
DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 (non-ECC)
DDR3 PC3-14900, DDR3 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 8GB
Slots: 2
And voltage should be 1.35v
