Intel T9600 (2.8Ghz) Issue - Studio 1737
Hi, Im having a few problems installing my new Intel T9600 (2.8Ghz) *1066Mgz* Processor - Once i have installed it and turn on the machine, the audio buttons on the media pad light up with the mute button flashing. this would usually indicate a RAM issue but my ram is perfectly fine as when i put my previous processor back it, the computer start up. Could this be a BIOS issue?
Ok so the tech specs of my system (working) are as follows:

Though the chipset does support 1066 MHz bus operation, the mainboard in the 1737 does not. It takes only CPUs with 800 or 667 MHz frontside bus.
It's not a BIOS issue - it's a mainboard issue.
You need the Studo 1745/47 for 1066 MHz support.

Also the really really weird thing is, there's a lot of people on here stating that they are using the T9600 on a 1737 system but I'm guessing they've possibly got the spec wrong. its a shame really, this model could have done with something like that - i remember it always being advertised as being a powerful computer when editing photos/videos and even for playing low spec games but it doesnt even run Photoshop CS5, CS6, Sims 2 without dragging its backside across the floor lol

Zack...
I have The Studio 1737 (nice bit of kit, imo!) with an Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8400 (3M Cache, 2.26 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB). Giving me no problems at all. 2x2gb pc2-6400 ram. 640gb and a 500gb Allows me to multi boot Win 8, win7Ult, VistaUlt, LinuxMint 16, OpenSuse, and all 64bit. without any problems.
Was using the Tseries T7500 cpu but it got too hot for my liking!
You need to get the P8 series and they go up to the Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8900 (3M Cache, 2.40 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) . Not sure about the P9000 series these have 6M Cache but may not work - idk!
Hope this helps! :emotion-1:

Your system supports only CPUs with 667 or 800 MHz frontside bus speeds -- you cannot use that CPU in the 1737.

The 1066Mhz frontside bus chips will automatically go down to 800Mhz in the 1737.
I currently have 1737s with P8600(2.4Ghz), P9700(2.8Ghz), P9600(2.66Ghz) and T9550(2.66Ghz).
The P8600 and T9550 were Dell options. I installed the P9600 and P9700 as lower power replacements. Just make sure any stepping number is SLGxx and the CPU is Socket P compatible. Wikipedia has a good reference entry.
The P series are 25 watts TDP (P9700 is 28) and the T series are 35 watts TDP.
And make sure to have the latest BIOS version installed.
