Internal and External speakers at same time but for different software
Hi,
I have a secondary monitor and it is working properly. The objective is to play video and sound for external monitor with external speakers (daughter listening to videos) and my game on my laptop screen with internal speakers.
I have a XPS Laptop with Win 7. I currently am plalying two software at same time, but both play sound in the internal speakers at same time (or external if I plug the jack) without sound issue. Is it possible to have first software playing sound in the internal speakers and second software playing sound in the external speakers at the same time?
Thanks
BellePatte

Hi BellePatte ,
Greetings from Dell
Windows 7 can support only 1 default audio device and hence you will not be able to play audio on 2 different outputs. Kindly revert for any other queries.

What about R.T.C. Headphones? On the laptop models with 2 headphone jacks, R.T.C. Headphones was supposed to support output of two audio streams simultaneously. This was only on models with 2 hp jacks and maybe only on those with IDT audio hardware. I know it was on various Inspirons, Latitudes, and Studio models. Don't know about XPS models. It looked like this on the Sound properties.
BellePatte, I can't offer any details about your laptop without knowing the model -- there are 20 XPS models. Even then I can't tell you how to configure RTC Headphones because I don't know. I suspect that even if you have it it probably would not help for your purpose. I think d.j.'s used it to play one audio stream through a PA system and while cueing up another through the headphones, but that probably requires some additional software. I've never looked into it to any great extent. I believe the original purpose of RTC headphones was to be able to listen to music through the speakers or external speakers while using the other jacks to connect a headset for Skype or voip calls. RTC stands for "real time communication".
