Keyboard/ cursor jumping/ deleted text
I have a Dell Latitude and my cursor seems to jump all over the place when I'm typing in any program. I have special software that I use for court work which requires me to use the Control keys plus certain letters, and if I hold the Ctrl key for three seconds without hitting the function (letter) that I need to, it jumps my cursor to the top of the page somewhere automatically. It's like a race to see how fast I can do the necessary function before my Dell takes over! Sometimes it automatically highlights text and deletes it!! Also, it will start highlighting text and start scrolling up or down the page really fast, and I just sit here watching it afraid to touch anything for fear it will delete my text! At first I tried keyboard options under the Control Panel, etc., but either I've got a serious keybpoard problem or this thing is possessed! Is anyone having similar problems or have a solution?!? I'm tired of fighting with this thing! I have a Compaq also (and had a Toshiba) and haven't had anything like this happen before.
Thanks in advance!! :)

Yes, I have been having the same problem for about 5 months now-- it's incredibly annoying, and moreover, it's caused me to lose text in several documents before.
Any fixes would be welcome.

Ditto, with my brand new Dell D800.
It seems to be a phantom mouse click, ie the text cursor jumps to wherever the mouse pointer was pointing.
One way to help might be to turn off the ability to use the touchpad as a mouse button, but I can't find an option to do that.
I'll be calling Dell on this one tomorrow

For MrMarmite, I didn't prefer to click with the touch pad, so I had that turned off immediately anyway. In order to do that, I had to go to Dell and download the driver to do it, which is called Synaptics TouchPad V5.6 on PS/2 Port. Then you have the Mouse Properties window to unclick the "Tap to Click" box.
Now, my Dell is a C800, not a D800, so you'll probably have to call Dell if you can't find the right one. I just thought maybe this could help you.......
