Keyboard keys

How do I use the hash key sitting above the number 3 on the keyboard, when I press the Shift key I get a £(pound sysmbol) instead of the hash # symbol!!

hi there
the problem is with language setting of the keyboard.
follow this
 
  1. Click Start, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
    Double-click the Regional and Language Options icon.
    Click the Languages tab.
  2. Click Details.
    The Text Services and Input Languages window appears.
  3. Under Default input language, confirm that English (United States)- US / UK (whichever is appropriate ) is selected.
  4. Click OK

Restart the system.
