Laptop Insurance???

Hey everybody,

I'm a perspective notebook owner that's wondering about possible protection plans for the notebook. I heard somewhere that Safeware is pretty good.

Are there any other good places?

I know that Staples offer protection plans for PDA, what about notebooks? Bestbuy? CompUSA?

Thanks,
Kent

Dell offers different levels of warranty - one, two, three, or four years, mail-in or onsite, and Complete Care (covers everything/anything).  All warranties (even CC) only warranty the battery for one year, as batteries have about 400 recharge cycles in them and any warranty over a year would be 100% replacements.  No reseller could sustain that rate of replacement and expect to stay in business.

You can also get home owners riders to cover computer equipment.

One other thing, are there any policies dealing with the replacement of batteries? As you know, they gradually lose their charge as it gets older. Is there anything for the batteries?

Safeware sounds very intriguing.  Does anyone here have any experience with it?

I would check your homeowners/renters policy.  My policy covers my computers and is a "replacement value" policy albeit with a $250 deductible.
