Laptop Screen Resizing Question

My first laptop, an Dell Inspiron 8000, could resize the screen using FN+F7, which put black borders around programs running beneath the default laptop res. Call me odd but I actually preferred running low res games like Starcraft in the smaller but crisper looking window, despite the tininess of the sprites. I`ve since moved onto a Compaq laptop, which doesnt have a simliar FN+F7 function, but in 2007 I am looking to buy a new Dell laptop hoping to regain this function. I`m wondering if anyone knows of any current Dell laptop models which still feature this screen resizing function -- I`d like to be able to put certain current PC games [which honestly arent smooth running at high resolutions, on a laptop at least] in a similar bordered window in order for them to appear sharper looking. Anyone know of current laptops that have a feature similar to FN+F7 on the older Dell laptops? Thanks in advance and happy holidays to all.

My Dell Latitude D820 has the feature you mentioned.  Same keys too, Fn F7.

I just tested.  Native resolution on my 15.4" monitor is 1920x1200x32-bit color.  Dropped it down to 1024x768x32-bit.

Press FN F7 (1) : Display changes to black margins around the 1024x768 screen resolution.  Icons are basically the same size as if I was running in native resolution.  HUGE waste of screen area.

Press FN F7 (2) : Display changes so that the screen resolution interpolates so that the vertical resolution fills.  That is, 768 pixels expand to fill the vertical.  I end up with two vertial black bars down the sides of my screen.

Press FN F7 (3) : Display stretches out and fills the entire 15.4" display.  Icons are stretched due to the 4:3 ratio being adjusted to compensate for the wide-screen aspect of the LCD panel.

Hope that helps!
