Laptop noob question: Does screen scaling affect FPS performance?

Greetings,

I play a few flight sims and first person shooters on my 8500. I have the WUXGA screen and was wondering if screen scaling (hope I got the term right, stretch to fit entire screen) affects frame per second? Would I see an increase in performance without it? Anyone know?

It will have no effect on FPS directly, but using a lower resolution than the max (with or without scaling) will likely improve performance.
