Laptop processor upgrade
I have an older Inspiron 5160 running XP SP3 w/ 1.25 ram and was wondering if, my processor being a 478 pin Intel pentium 4 3.06G, can I upgrade to a core 2 duo, or will there be height limitations and/or voltage/timing/etc issues?

The only CPU type this system takes is a mobile Pentium 4 - you can use a hyperthreading model, but there are no Core CPUs that will work.

Once again, thank you for the info. I have done some more research into the core 2 issue and have found that, although the core2 chip is in fact a 478 pin model, the pin configuration (internal pinout/voltage, etc) would not be compatible with the 478 pin socket on my motherboard. Even if it was to fit the socket, there would most likely be damage to the processor and/or motherboard.
