Laptop stuck on Windows 8 load screen

I went to restart my Inspirion 3520 after regular maintenance and now it gets stuck on a blue screen with an animated loading icon and 'please wait' message. It's the regular Windows loading screen but it won't advance beyond this. I've tried pulling the battery and holding down the power button and the F12 diagnostic shows no hardware issues. Can't get the disc drive to run so can't reinstall Windows. Any other thoughts?

Hi Jonas916,

It seems like the operating system is corrupted. You can refresh the system to check if the issue resolves. Switch ON the system and switch OFF the system 3 to 4 times when the Dell logo appears. This will make the system to go into **Windows 8 Advanced Startup Options** screen. Please select **Troubleshoot** option and choose the **REFRESH** option so that it refreshes the windows operating system.

Hello Ravi,

I tried the steps you suggested and am still stuck with the windows load screen saying "please wait", or "Windows is loading. Please don't turn off your computer". Any other suggestions?

Thanks for you assistance so far. Hope I can get this figured out.

Hi Jonas916,

I’d advise that you load defaults in the BIOS. Please follow the steps mentioned below to load the BIOS to defaults.

  1. Reboot the computer.
  2. When prompted during POST, press the key to enter the setup screen.
  3. On the System Setup screen, press the key.
  4. Press the key on Yes to Load Optimized Defaults and restart the computer.

Please let me know if this helps.
