I got a video driver directly from Intel's site.  It has been working flawlessly!   I'm happy that My machine is working great!    Now I can do anything I want.

Thanks, Intel.

Dell update you driver to include the latest from Intel

Jeremiah - I have tried downloading the latest Intel drivers for the 945 chipset but when I try and install them it says they are not validated for my computer (Dell 420 running Vista 32.  It seems I have to wait for Dell to produce their versions of the drivers - how did you get round this?

What to do is, Stat the setup.  At the first screen go find the tmp files and copy them somewhere else.  I did start - search and typed in %temp%

That broght me to the temp folder.   I sorted by date and grabbed the folder that was created last.   (It contained subfolders like Graphics, HDMI and Lang.).  I copied it to C:\Pkginst\Drivers\Video\
(pkginst stands for Package Install)

Then after setup dies you should be able to use the folder you copied.

Good Luck

:smileysad: that's what I had hoped to do, but on mine it appears to unpack them but when it realises you've been very naughty, it gives you the error message and presumably deletes them as they don't show in the unpack directory

Well, I tried to install the package from Intel.  yes it did the same to me.  It gave me an error and failed.  BUT, it did unpack the drivers.   I manually went to the Device Manager and did an update on the video driver and pointed it to the unziped files that the Intel install created.

It was a while ago now, so I don't remember all of the details.  but it works great!

JUST remember.  After you load these drivers don't let Windows Update update the drivers.  It will revert to the useless version.

aaaaargh ... I don't believe it.  I did all that and I can see all the unpacked files from the latest Intel build (15.4 which relates to 7.10.14.1255 which is later than the installed Dell ..... 1147) but when I try to do update driver it looks at these files and tells me I'm already up to date and won;'t use them

I too was in the same boat. I plucked the temp file into another directory, but when I updated the driver it failed with the moronic the driver is already up to date (determined by windows of course). However, with a little faith, I rolled back the driver, sweated it out while the screen flickered horribly from 16 colors. Then went in and updated the driver pointing it to the directory and it worked beautifully.
Intel Express Chipset 945GM.
The Dell version of the driver for the Latitude D520 Vista 32 bit is 7.14.10.1114
Intel's newest version for vista is 7.14.10.1255

Good Luck
