Yes, it takes a new cable.. Question is.. I'm not sure what one....
I bought a powered USB cable, 5 volt, however it does not fit the connection on the back, it looks like this This But mine is a 5 volt version. The connector on the cable I bought is too big. The connector on the back of the dell is just too small.
Yeah...About the receptor. I cannot imagine what Dell did, but that is not PoweredUSB. There are very few PoweredUSB cable manufactorers, and even fewer, or rather, no cable manufactoers that I can find. I've looked through the PoweredUSB specifications, both the .08f and .08g. Why did Dell use the wrong part? I say wrong because Dell is calling it a Powered? How is this possible?
"That third port which is the Powered USB port is just one, it's not separate. If you'll look at it, it appears to be 2 but that is a ONE whole D/bay port. It is used to connect D/bay devices into your computer, like for example an external hard drive or floppy drive. A powered usb port or the D/bay port is not the same as the regular USB port."

Jamesesp, I love you! I looked all over trying to find what port this was. I knew that FCI made it, and searched through their site, but was unable to find the product. From what I read, this is just an updated connector for the PoweredUSB, which has many different names. USB + Power is another name for PoweredUSB. This means that it should follow the PoweredUSB specifications. That would mean that the port supports 5V, 12V, or even 24V. I believe each voltage level also supports 3 amps, but this could be 6 (as is mentioned). I gave up on trying to figure this out when I couldn't figure out what type of jack was used. I will contact FCI and update this forum as I find out more.

I use the "powered USB" as a standard USB port with no problem.
The slot above the powered USB is not an e-sata connection It has only 4 pins.

I have also noticed this port and heard that it can supply 5, 12, or 24V output but no one will confirm.
I can not find a cable to suit.
Suggestions???

A little googling...
http://www.poweredusb.org/fcislim.html
The port on the latitude appears to be one of these, I tried looking on the manufacturer's web site for compatible products, but found very little.

I do believe that, that is the connection. I think it will take a bit more digging to find a cable that will use the USB and the powersource.
Thanks for the info.
